Sankofa Saturday School is an arts and literacy-based program that cultivates academic excellence, positive self-identity, active responsibility and a holistic understanding of our environment through an in-depth analysis of history and present-day culture. Students emerge as responsible and creative community leaders.

Sankofa Community Empowerment is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving youth, college students and community members in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Houston, Texas and New York City, New York. SCE provides participants with culturally relevant and socially practical educational experiences that empower them to assume leadership roles to address issues prevalent in urban communities. These issues include topics such as the growing educational achievement gap, poverty, incarceration, AIDS, underemployment, lack of economic empowerment, violence, and low self-esteem. SCE’s Saturday Schools, Leadership and Community Forums, After School Programs, and Rites of Passage Programs, are multipurpose and serve as Educational Tools, Violence Prevention Programs, Esteem Builders, Support Groups, and Leadership Development Mechanisms, all of which are designed to link various members of the community together to cultivate a healthy, safe and prosperous environment.
